From 5 April to 4 September 2023 (extended to 11th september 2023) the Museo Nazionale del Bargello will be hosting Lorenzo Ghiberti’s St. John the Baptist, Andrea del Verrocchio’s Christ and St. Thomas and Giambologna’s St. Luke, three of the greatest masterpieces of Renaissance bronze statuary hailing from the Museo di Orsanmichele, which is part of the Musei del Bargello cluster. The exhibition is designed to offer visitors a chance to view the statues from the famous Orsanmichele sculptural cycle in the setting of the medieval Palazzodel Podestà while Orsanmichele itself is closed for renovation from 12 December 2022 to 22 September 2023. “This small exhibition focusing on these major bronze masterpieces sets out not only to allow visitors to continue admiring three of the most important statues of the Renaissance that marked crucial turning points in the history of that era, even though renovation work in Orsanmichele prevents them from being viewed in their original setting,” said Musei del Bargello Director Paola d’Agostino, “but also to forge a closer bond between the Musei del Bargello’s several collections which are unique in being able to illustrate the pre-eminenceof Florentine bronze statuary from the 15th to the early 18th centuries.”
