Situated on Ponte Spinola, Genoa’s medieval port, this is one of the most important aquaria in Europe, in fact in the world. The tour takes in over 30 tanks, plus the four open-air tanks in the Cetacean Pavilion or whale house opened in 2013 and designed by the famous architect Renzo Piano. The tanks are home to some 15,000 animals of 400 different species ranging from fish to marine mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibious creatures and invertebrates in settings that reproduce each species’ home environment, with a clear educational aim.
