This gallery houses one of the most important collections of painting and sculpture in the world, with Michelangelo’s celebrated David and his Prisoners alongside a rich collection of Italian gold ground paintings, including Lorenzo Monaco’s Annunciation and Giovanni da Milano’s Lamentation over the Dead Christ, and such Renaissance masterpieces as Bronzino’s Deposition and Pontormo’s Venus and Cupid. Also of interest is the collection of plaster casts and models by  Lorenzo Bartolini and Luigi Pampaloni that make up the Gipsoteca, while the gallery also owns a unique collection of precious musical instruments which once belonged to the Medici and Lorraine Grand Dukes, most of them from the Conservatorio Luigi Cherubini in Florence.
