An exhibition in which some 200 works of art tell the story of the garden down the centuries. The exhibition takes its cue from the Royal Palace of Caserta, the celebrated Reggia di Caserta, to relate the systems of villas and gardens that crisscrossed the Italian peninsula from the Renaissance to the early 19th century. The result is a kaleidoscope of representations which, through contact with nature and in the diversity of their landscapes, cultural models and life styles, conjure up the lost Garden of Eden to which man has aspired from time immemorial. With this contribution to scholarship, so spectacularly conveyed through the beauty of the peerless Reggia di Caserta, the exhibition aims to promote a greater awareness of the importance and value of this fragile yet precious heritage, a product of man’s harmonious interaction with nature that embodies the very concept of husbandry.
